Some say the Bible
is full of contradictions. They are wrong. To understand this, you must
understand that God had a developed strategy in dealing with people. He is
always the same but, his ways of dealing with man and sin has changed over
time. He increased our knowledge and understanding with each passing
generation. What may have been a true practice in Judges is not particularly
true today.
The
Synthesis Principle. This is what the Reformers called the analogia
scriptura. It means that the Bible doesn’t contradict itself. If we arrive
at an interpretation of a passage that contradicts a truth taught elsewhere in
the Scriptures, our interpretation cannot be correct. Scripture must be
compared with Scripture to discover its full meaning. So, while comparing
Scripture with Scripture, we discover that over the past instead of
contradiction, God has changed the way he has dealt with man. For example, we
modern day evangelical Christians do not do burnt offerings for redemption.
Take a look at more changes below; you may be surprised that you are really
learning about God in a greater way than ever before.
Say a prayer of
preparation and start reading the word. After reading this study, take your own
Bible down and follow along with this study again. It’s no trick. These verses
really exist in this context. God bless you and your study. Enjoy discovering
the Bible like never before.
1) Change in diet
a. With
Adam:
Gen 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every
herb bearing seed, which is upon the
face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is
the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Gen 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every
fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is
life, I have
given every green herb for meat: and it
was so.
b: With Noah:
Gen 9:2 And the fear of you and the dread of you
shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon
all that moveth upon the earth, and upon
all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
Gen 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat
for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
Gen 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is
the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
c. And twice more
Then we see a change in the diet of the Jews thru
the laws of Moses and again a change when Jesus said “it’s not what goes in
that defiles but what comes out the mouth comes from the heart”.
2) Change in Sacrifice.
a: With
Abraham:
Gen 22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that
God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
Gen 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into
the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the
mountains which I will tell thee of.
b. With
Jesus:
John 3:16 For
God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
3) Change in relationships.
a.
With Moses:
Exo 23:32-33 Thou shalt make no covenant
with them, nor with their gods. (segregation from Gentiles) They shall not dwell in thy land, lest
they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be
a snare unto thee.
b. With Jesus thru Paul:
Rom 10:12-13 For there is no difference
between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that
call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved.
4) From sin to Liberty .
a.
With Adam:
Gen 3:6-7 And when the woman saw that
the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be
desired to make one wise, she took of
the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he
did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together,
and made themselves aprons.
b. With
Jesus:
Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the
world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have
sinned:
Rom 5:13-21 (For until the law sin was in
the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death
reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the
similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But
not as the offense, so also is the free
gift. For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of
God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto
many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the
gift: for the judgment was by one to
condemnation, but the free gift is of
many offenses unto justification. For if by one man's offense death reigned by one;
much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of
righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the
offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the
righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For
as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one
shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offense might
abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath
reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto
eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
5) Inocent blood spilled because of sin.
a. With
Adam:
Gen 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD
God make coats of skins, and clothed them
b. With
Jesus:
Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood,
the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Rom 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a
propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the
remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
1Jn 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and
not for ours only, but also for the sins of the
whole world.
6) Israel was given The Law / Later, the world
was given liberty.
a. The
Law
Exo 19:5-20:17 Now therefore, if ye will obey
my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure
unto me above all people: for all the earth is
mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the
children of Israel .
And God spoke all these words, saying, I am
the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the
house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make
unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of
any thing
that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor
serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a
jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the
third and fourth generation of them that
hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my
commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the
LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Remember the
sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: But
the seventh day is the sabbath of the
LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son,
nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy
stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the
sea, and all that in them is, and rested
the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Honor
thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the
LORD thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not
kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear
false witness against thy neighbor. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house,
thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his
maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's. And the LORD said unto Moses,
Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first
tables, which thou didst break.
Gal 4:4-6 But when the fullness of the
time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To
redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of
sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into
your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
b. Grace
Gal 3:10-22 For as many as are of the
works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things
which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is
justified by the law in the sight of God, it
is evident: for, The just shall live by
faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in
them. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for
us: for it is written, Cursed is every
one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the
Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit
through faith. For if the inheritance be
of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of
transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. Is the law then against the promises of God? God
forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily
righteousness should have been by the law. But the Scripture hath concluded all
under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them
that believe.
Col 2:14-23 Blotting out the handwriting
of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of
the way, nailing it to his cross; And
having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly,
triumphing over them in it. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in
drink, or in respect of a holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but
the body is of Christ. Let no man
beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshiping of angels,
intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his
fleshly mind, And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and
bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the
increase of God. Wherefore if ye be dead
with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the
world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which
all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will-worship, and humility, and
neglecting of the body; not in any honor to the satisfying of the flesh.
Rom 5:17-21 For if by one man's offense
death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of
the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came
upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came
upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many
were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover
the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace
did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace
reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
7) Cleansing of Gods preist/Baptism.
a. Old
Testament
Exo 40:13-15 And thou shalt put upon Aaron
the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him (with water); that he may minister unto me in the
priest's office. And thou shalt bring his sons, and clothe them with coats: And
thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may
minister unto me in the priest's office: for their anointing shall surely be an
everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.
Heb 9:10 Which stood
only in meats and drinks, and divers
washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on
them until the time of reformation.
b. New
Testament
Mat 3:13-17 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee
to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
But
John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou
to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer
it to
be so
now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then
he suffered him. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of
the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of
God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven,
saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Eph 4:4-6 There
is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of
your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Rom 6:3-5 Know ye not, that so many of
us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore
we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in
newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his
death, we shall be also in the likeness
of his resurrection:
Also all of Romans Chapters 6-7
8) Sabbath
a. The
Law
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou
shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor
thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 31:13-17 Speak thou also unto the
children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your
generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep
the sabbath therefore; for it is holy
unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for
whosoever doeth any work therein, that
soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days may work be done; but in
the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy
to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in
the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of
Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their
generations, for a perpetual covenant. It
is a sign between me and the children of
Israel forever: for in six days the LORD
made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
b. The teaching Christ
Mar 2:23-26 And it came to pass, that he
went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as
they went, to pluck the ears of corn. And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold,
why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? And he said unto them,
Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry, he, and they that were with him? How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
Mat 12:1-8 At that time Jesus went on the
sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were hungry, and began to pluck
the ears of corn, and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do
that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day. But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was hungry, and they that were with him; How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless, But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
Rom 14:5-6 One man esteemeth one day
above another: another esteemeth every day alike.
Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day,
regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that
regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he
giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth
God thanks.
9) Temple
a. Temple
during the Law
Exo 25:8-9 And let them make me a
sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. According to all that I show thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the
pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.
b. Temple
after crucifixion
Eph 4:4-16 There
is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of
your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Eph 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Eph 4:7 But unto every one of us is given grace
according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Wherefore he saith, When he
ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now
that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower
parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far
above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) And he gave some, apostles;
and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For
the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of
the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the
knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the
stature of the fullness of Christ: That we henceforth
be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of
doctrine, by the sleight of men, and
cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth
in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly
joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to
the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body
unto the edifying of itself in love.
Eph 2:13-22 But now in Christ Jesus ye who
sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our
peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of
partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself
of twain one new man, so making peace; And
that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain
the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and
to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto
the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens
with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation
of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple
in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God
through the Spirit.
Heb 9:11 But Christ being come a high priest of good
things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands,
Co 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your
body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which
is in you, which ye have of God, and ye
are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your
body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
10) Jesus Priority.
a. Before
Crucifixion
Mat 10:5-8 These twelve Jesus sent forth,
and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Mat 15:22-28 And, behold, a woman of Canaan
came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O
Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is
grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his
disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after
us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came
she and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said,
Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters'
table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her
daughter was made whole from that very hour.
